A New Year

A New Year

If you’re like me, you love the fresh start that is brought by a new year. It’s a time to evaluate, reflect, and dream. Some years it’s brand new goals or initiatives that are set. Other years, it’s learning what worked, or didn’t work last year and making improvements. Here at Chariots for Hope, our goal remains the same, to provide hope and opportunity for each and every child in our care to become exemplary citizens, leaders, and followers of Jesus Christ. Every goal and initiative we set comes back to this vision.

What are we planning in 2017 you might ask?

Here are a few exciting initiatives for our homes:

_89A5763Peer counseling groups: While started in 2016, we’re looking forward to great growth in our peer counseling groups this year. These groups allow students of similar ages or maturity levels to have a safe place to talk through important topics such as building healthy relationships, hygiene, dealing with trauma, sexuality, and career planning. Our staff members do a great job facilitating these groups.

Career planning: It is our desire that our children have every opportunity to use the skills that God has given them. We’re working with our managers, and Kenyan Program Manager to ensure that our children understand the various fields of study that they can pursue. This includes visits from local professionals and alumni to talk with our older students about their jobs.

Physical improvements: We have a few pressing facility needs that will be met this year. A new boy’s dorm at Mahiga Children’s Home had been the single greatest need across all 8 homes. Through generous donations from the Home’s Partner, Christ’s Home, in addition to 2 private donors, the dorm should be open by March!

We’re also looking forward to adding a borehole at Kaptagat that will provide irrigation to the farm, allowing the home to grow all their own vegetables!

Child Sponsorship: We’re closer than ever to 100% of our children having a sponsor! Almost 800 children live in our homes, and only 55 are without a sponsor. We want every child to know the love and care of being sponsored in 2017.

We’re excited about the year to come and all that God will do in the lives of these precious children and staff members. Do you feel called to help these children? Do you want to get more involved?  Here are some ways to make a difference:

Consider sponsorship:

$45 a month truly impacts a child’s life. If you’re already a sponsor, share this with a friend or family member and ask them to change a child’s life today! www.chariotsforhope.org/get-involved/sponsor-a-child/

Volunteer:

We often have ways that you can use your time and talents to help! Shoot us a note at [email protected]

Introduce us:
